Strength of a Tidal Wave - a bones poem

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 9:21 PM
Hey everyone! I wrote this poem I'd like to share with you all. I personally cannot wait for season five, only a few more days until the premiere.

Title
- Strength of a Tidal Wave
Author - [info]annie_hay
Type - Poem
Pairing - Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth
Summary - They thought they could just hide their emotions for the sake of their partnership, but they may be dead wrong about that. One heart. One voice. and two hands.
Spoilers aren't present, but there are references of of them.

Tweaked version -- Original

fic: Lines From A Stray Age (1/1)

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 9:28 PM
Title: Lines From A Stray Age (1/1)
Author: _missmargaret_
Word Count: 9,624
Rating: pg.13
Characters/Pairings: Booth/Brennan, Jared, Squints, Sweets
Spoilers: post-ep for The End in the Beginning
Disclaimer: Bones isn’t mine. Title from Daniel Martin Moore’s amazing Stray Age. Listen. You will not be disappointed.
Author’s Note: It feels so good to finally have this finished. I started it right after the finale aired and it’s been eating away at me ever since. Something just wasn’t wanting to come together and although I first began this as a chapter fic, I really wanted to post it as one piece and let each section flow into the next. I hope you enjoy it! Many thanks to the lovely [info]spacekid77 who generously offered her time to read this and toss a few ideas around. This wouldn’t be anywhere near as good without you, babe. And, as always, a huge thanks to my amazing beta [info]styromgalleries. Without her, you’d all be dead from my love of dashes and ellipses and semi-colons. :) And thanks to [info]billpickle for posting her epic EitB fic and making me pick this back up!
Finally, I want to thank each one of you that has taken the time to read and comment. Your lovely words mean more to me than you could know. Thank you. Now, on to the story…
Summary:
The man who goes alone can start today; but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready, and it may be a long time before they get off. - Henry David Thoreau

("To go where you have been and to be where you are again...")
There were quite a few refs this past week related to the inclusion of "fan fiction" in the latest edition of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, with the Associated Press, PR Newswire, Canwest News Service, and Reuters all including the term in articles.

There were two refs related to Harry Potter; I expect more in the coming weeks. In a piece on wizard rock for TIME, the often-fanfic-friendly Lev Grossman wrote Potter fan fiction continues to flow onto the Net, extending the Potterverse out toward the horizon in all directions, with the blessing of J.K. Rowling. And, in The National (UAE), Ed Lake ranted a bit about the HP phenomenum: Few literary characters have found themselves the object of such intense romantic speculation – and so much eye-watering fan fiction – as Harry Potter. I'm cutting the dude some slack because apparently he looks like Harry.

Jonathan McIntosh wrote about his mashup Buffy vs. Edward on Women in Media & News: I was inspired by women who have been creating fan fiction as self-conscious creative communities since before I was born. He's so earnest, I want to hit him over the head with a fourier transform. Or give him a cookie.

On American Chronicle, Tracee Gleichner interviewed fantasy author Carolyn Wada, who said, in response to a question about when she started writing, I've always had an imaginary story in my head, every day of my remembered life. A lot of it was "fan fiction," extrapolated stories about He-Man or Transformers characters, for example.

Finally, on Examiner.com:Six more references! )

MY MUM IS COMING.

QUICK, HIDE....EVERYTHING!

She just bought tickets to come visit at the start of August. ARGH. She's thinking of staying with me this time -- she has a standing invitation to do so, and even if that weren't the case I'd still clean frantically. Not that I have an untidy home, but I'm willing to put up with certain things that she's not, like a bit of grease on the stove or a bedroom I haven't roomba'd in a few weeks.

Unrelatedly, I think you should know that [info]snaxcident and I can solve all your problems.

Especially the ones that happen in Torchwood Season 3. Cut for spoilers. )

This morning I made a one-time post to [info]ask_aboutcoffee, to deal with some various events in S3. We thought as a group it would be nice for fandom, but we uh. Seriously underestimated the level of response we'd get. In eight hours we got 1200 comments. Granted, some of that was us threading, but still.

So. Guess fandom needed that, huh? Our little corner of it anyhow.

And that is where my Saturday went. Well, that and eating pizza, ALL THE PIZZA IN THE WORLD, because the delivery place mistakenly brought me two of everything I'd ordered one of. OH HOW WILL I SURVIVE.

So, I'm sewing a robe for the Harry Potter midnight showing THIS Wednesday/Tuesday. I going to be busy tomorrow so I obviously need to get this done ASAP however for some reason my sewing machine refuses to work right! I'm not sure why I've tried changing everything I could, I've inserted/removed the bobbin about 50 times it feels but nothing changes. I've taken photos of what the machine is doing, I've had the problem before but it just sorta rectified it's self last time. I swear the machine hates me and is begging me for attention and feels that it would be suited to make tassels instead of stitches! What do I do!?

Anybody want to take a stab at what's NOT helping us move the changes for this community along? I'll give you three guesses.

If one of your guesses is "lack of community participation," you are absolutely correct. You were all BEAUTIFUL when it came to choosing between the two options. But I posted phase two over a week ago, and haven't gotten anything.

So please. Respond to this post with some prompts you would like to see. They can be ANYTHING. From colours to emotions and feelings to, heck, random options. As many as you want. As many as you can think of. We want to compile a list of thirty or so varied themes so that you guys can pick your favorites and narrow it down to a list of twenty.

Just a reminder: this will be a list of prompts which you can use to replace up to five prompts on either table A or B (whichever one you choose for your challenge), in case you're having trouble with a prompt or just want to spice it up a little. Your two mods cannot do this all on our lonesomes. You have to help. Please respond with some prompts. Again, as many as you can think of. I'd rather have to pick through 100 prompts for the best handful than have to make them all up on my own. This is YOUR community. These are YOUR challenges. These are YOUR future prompts. Give us a hand, will you?

With the clock ticking down until the con, I'd love to get the last 25 or so people I need to complete this parade group!

I want to get 111 people together and go in the 2009 parade as the periodic table of the elements. It's easy -- pick an element, then do whatever you want to be that element. You can think big or think simple; the only "rule" is that you write the element's info on your costume. For instance, my Hydrogen costume will include:

1
H
Hydrogen
1.008

We are more than 3/4 of the way there! Here's a Google spreadsheet showing what's been taken so far and what is still available:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pLNs7r9AZkuTGCmkx_0FmVw

There are also Facebook and LJ groups to help keep everything organized:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=98025705045
http://community.livejournal.com/dcperiodictable

There are plenty of elements left. If you want to participate, reply here! Also, please pass this message along to anyone you think might be interested.

Desperately seeking fangsmith

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 12:00 PM

Hey all, does anyone know the names of the fangsmiths that come to Dragoncon each year?  There are always several in the dealer’s room, but I can't remember the names.  My husband and I are doing Van Helsing and Verona this year and I need a new pair of fangs.

Also, if you know of any good fangsmiths in Montreal or Toronto, that would be great too, as I could have them done before I leave.  I’ve looked around the net, but they all appear to be in NYC/Miami/LA and I don’t want to do mail order as my teeth are a bit strange ;o)

Zoetica Ebb At Etsy

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 6:57 PM

BioRequiem Etsy: selected oil paintings and prints. Many of you will have seen her line art in COILHOUSE. As Zo-bot itself says, once these are gone, they’re gone forever. And since she’s doing more and more gallery shows, you’re unlikely to see them this cheap again.

IT SAYS OBEY.
